The Amarante Golf Course was inaugurated in 1997 and designed by Jorge Santana da Silva. This 18 hole course is inland in the mountains of Marão and Aboboreira on the Costa Verde in the north of Portugal. Although the design of the golf course has limited the climbs, being 600 metres above sea level, a golf buggy is recommended. Hole 4, although only 306 metres long is notoriously challenging as the approach shot is played onto a raised green only twenty metres wide and seven meters long. Amarante Golf Course hosted the Portuguese Professional Championships in 1999 and 2000.
